In Photos: "South of the Border"
Tourist traps are a staple of the American road trip and every road seems to have them. I-40 has the Big Texan, home to the "free" 72 oz steak, there's I-80's World's Largest Truck Stop, and on I-95 just below the border between the Carolinas is the tourist trap to end them all, South of the Border.
If the number of billboards in the miles leading up to it was proportional to how cool a place actually is then South of the Border would probably be the best place on earth, rather than the sprawling arrangement of buildings all with essentially no purpose that it is in reality. Nonetheless, the stop, even if it was overflowing with cheap t-shirts illustrating brazen ethnic stereotypes, was a good chance to stretch our legs on the long drive from Raleigh to Tampa.
