Go Skateboarding Day
June 21- Go Skateboarding Day
The day we had all been waiting for, sort of; go skateboarding day. While Mark Waters and the Emerica team were going wild in the streets of Vancouver, B.C., the Game of SKATE crew and I went wild in some of Washington's and Oregon’s finest skateparks. We didn’t forget to call our fathers and wish them a happy father’s day, either. Although we probably shouldn’t have wasted a second of skateboarding time this day, we woke up a little late that morning in Seattle, Washington. Doug, Phil, Bucky, Oscar, Jay and I went to meet up with Jay’s old friend Sabrina and got some grub. I’m a little disappointed and I feel sorry for anyone who will never get to take a bite out of her cupcakes. Sabrina knows how to bake some dang good pastries! We rounded up Bibi, Jhonny, Dieter, and Patrick at Jhonny’s cousin’s house and headed for Battle Ground skatepark, in Southern Washington just north of Portland.
The weather didn’t look too promising on the way to Battle Ground, but the sun was shining when we arrived at the skatepark. Weather in Washington and Oregon is weird, it's hard to believe that there are so many amazing outdoor skateparks here. Some of the crew members had been to the Battle Ground skatepark two years prior on Go Skateboarding Day to kick off Emerica’s Wild Ride, but the rest of us were first-timers. The park was super rad and did not disappoint. I got a little upset and kicked my board at a barrier when a biker crossed my path at full speed, and the nose of my board had a chip the size of Texas. What the heck were bikers doing at the skatepark on our day anyways? We had a great time, but cut the session to an hour so we could have some daylight to skate our favorite park in Hood River.
On our way to Hood River, we made a quick pit stop at Multnomah Falls, OR for some sightseeing. The waterfall was a beautiful sight, and we all took some pictures of the waterfall with some posing shots as well. We had intentions of meeting up with our Hood River buddy Colton Trayhorn, but the park got rained out and he left. Luckily, by the time we arrived it was totally dry and there were only a couple kids there so the park was practically all ours. Sorry we missed ya’, Colton! We had the time of our lives enjoying our special day on our skateboards at a sick skatepark. We captured some tricks and skated until the sun set. Although the time we spent on our skateboards that day may have been worth it, we'd been skating all day at the expense of a terrible drive to Boise, Idaho afterwards. Jay made the long drive to Boise in one stretch, and we arrived at the hotel at 3 a.m. Needless to say, we all passed right out. Thanks, Jay, for driving like a champ all night!
