By the start of the early Saturday afternoon at Arenas Skatepark in San Jose on May 17, you could tell it was going to be a full house. We had a line of kids standing outside of the skate shop waiting for us to start the sign up sheets and get a spot in the Game. This was the most kids we ever had enterering the Game of SKATE. Actually, there was so many people that the vending machines at the park had to be restocked on three different occasions with water, soft and energy drinks during the 4 1/2 hours it took us to run the game.

We saw lots of surprises and upsets at this qualifier, as some of the better known flatground skaters of the country got eliminated early on by new/up-and-comers.

In the end we had another four way final that consisted of Miguel Castro, Jose Figueroa, Daniel Chacon (éS rider and 12 years old) and Rodolfo Solano. At the end of the 25 minute final it was Rodolfo who took everyone out, not even getting one letter himself, by throwing down a solid combination of switch and regular kickflips, tre flips, hard flips, late shove-its and late shove-it kickflips, bringing out a little bit of the early 90's flat skills.

It was a nice sunny Saturday morning in Vilnius. Kids started arriving early coming from all directions flipping boards right in front of the X-Club shop where the event was going to take place.
In few hours around 200 kids showed up. Some still flipped boards, some laid in the grass enjoying the sunshine, some just sat in shade listening to the DJ's performance.
The atmosphere was laid back. Kids just did what they are used to, some advancing trough the brackets, some just taking it easy on not getting their tricks stomped as they would want to.
In the end we had a four way final with German Miliuta, Einius Žiukas, Mindaugas Petravicius and last year's winner, Dima Fiodorov. Surprisingly fast it was and the young Einius Žiukas eliminated his rivals in a fifteen-minute battle.
Congrats to all the guys! Here's some more photos!

This year's éS Game of S.K.A.T.E. was held at Mall Sport. Over 35 competitors from around Chile, Brazil and Peru came to skate.

After a long day of eliminations and amazing tricks, we ended with a three way final. Felipe Opazo (Concepcion,Chile), Dhiego Correa (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and Guillermo Vascones (Lima, Peru).

Tricks got very tech including flip shiftys, switch heelflip bigspins, 540 flip bigspins etc. The first rider out was Opazo, leaving the final to Guillermo from Peru and Dhiego from Brazil. After a dozen or so tricks Guillermo sealed the deal by eliminating Dhiego with a flip shifty. So Guillermo Vascones from Peru wins the latin finals of the éS Game of skate!

As kids filled the park in the early hours of the afternoon posters, stickers and raffle tickets were given away. It was a great day for running the event, even though it had rained, over 250 people showed up the park to take a look at 70 kids flipping boards and landing tricks on all four wheels in order to advance through the brackets and get on their way to the finals.

The second annual éS Game of SKATE, presented by Boost Mobile, hit Hawaii on Saturday, May 17, 2008. With twice as many entrants as last year and all of their friends and family in attendance, A’ala Park was full. In true Hawaii style, there was hootin’ and hollerin’ from start to finish.

The Game of SKATE was set up at one end of the park, so most of the park was still skateable, which meant everyone could keep their legs fresh between rounds. As the field of 137 was whittled down to the finals, the skating got better and the games got more intense.

Aala Park locals Chad Hiyakumoto, Chris “Applenuts” Awong, John Oliveira, Shane Ragiles, Matt Chaffin, and Danny Hamaguchi, along with rippers Rico Qwantez, and Bernardo Bernard all held it down into the top 16. Chaffin ended in 4th, John Oliviera got 3rd, and the final two skaters were a repeat match of last year: Danny Hamaguchi and Ian Okui. These two went through a big list of tricks including fakie tres, half-cab flips, and nollie frontside flips before Ian got Danny with a nollie varial heelflip and a switch bigspin heelflip to earn the trip to the World Amateur Championships for the second year in a row. Thanks to Chad at APB for helping make the éS Game of SKATE happen in Hawaii again. This was a great way to start off the Game of SKATE tour!
