New York, New York
New York City has repeatedly held the record for the biggest éS Games of SKATE ever held, and 2007 was no exception. In fact, this year, they put the game format to the test, as a whopping 376 skaters signed up to play for the glory. Tompkins Square Park was the spot, at the TF, and KCDC and Autumn skate shops were our partners, and did a great job getting the word out. We’re going to have to figure out something to do about this next year—it was too many people!

As usual, New York brought out the characters, and since this was our fourth year back at the same spot, it was nice to see some familiar faces. Leo from Staten Island, Amadeus from Queens, plus all the usual New York skate heads who always come out are part of what makes New York skateboarding so amazing.

This time, Jon Newport decided to skate in his bathrobe, which made us all laugh—the hit of the day. The Finals came down to four guys, who all ripped, but in the end it was Brian Kennedy, who pre-qualified after winning a feeder event up in Massachusetts, who took home the Boost Mobile phone, the Nixon watch, the éS gear, and all of the glory. New York’s gonna have to come back from that one, letting an Irish Bostonian take the top spot in their own backyard. To their credit, though, the New York crowd was very gracious—which is perfect, since skaters are skaters, no matter where we’re from.
