Toronto, Ontario, Canada

On Saturday, July 14, 2007, over 35 skaters battled it out to name one champ in the éS Game of SKATE 2007 Ontario, Canada Finals held in Toronto! The competition took place at Scadding Court Skatepark, which is run by the City of Toronto. Thanks to Rob Poyner’s--and several other city employees’--tireless efforts, éS collaborated with the city to make this amazing event take place.

Some classic battles went down, like Mike Crook vs. Mike Mains, who called up every trick in the skate bible. Wojtek Zawada had four letters on him at one point and he managed to laserflip his way out of it, giving five letters in a row back to his competitor as the crowd was left in shock! The weather co-operated with us until we reached our Semi-Final qualifying round. It then rained like it didn’t know what else to do.

We had one option left: move the éS Game of SKATE to a covered hallway to play the final six games and name a winner. The last game was between Kenny Hunt, from London, Ontario, who is qualified to play in the Finals, and the young TJ Rogers. It was a neck-and-neck game, as both guys traded letters left and right and kept tying it up! TJ finally won with his two variations on the half Casper flip.
The top five skaters who competed were:
1. TJ Rogers
2. Kenny Hunt
3. Matt Sullivan
4. Phong
5. Wojtek Zawada
When all was said and done, the 15-year-old TJ Rogers walked away victorious! Congratulations to TJ and all of the skaters that came out to make this event go off! This year’s éS Game of SKATE 2007 Ontario Finals was presented by éS Footwear, the City of Toronto and Friendly Skateboards. Thanks to all who were involved!
